What is American Mahjong?
American Mahjong is a fun, social tile game that combines strategy, skill, luck, and connection. While it originated from traditional Mahjong, American Mahjong has its own unique rules, including the use of the National Mah Jongg League card, jokers, and the Charleston (a tile-passing tradition at the beginning of the game). I love teaching American Mahjong because it is so much more than learning a game — it’s about bringing people together, making new friendships, and creating a fun social experience.
How long does it take to learn Mahjong?
Most beginners can learn the fundamentals of American Mahjong in one lesson. My Mahj 101 class teaches you the basics: how to set up the game, understand the tiles, read the card, build hands, and learn the flow of play. Like anything new, becoming more comfortable and confident comes with practice. That’s why I offer follow-up opportunities like Mahj 102, Mahj 201, and Mahj Club — so you can keep learning while having fun!
Is Mahjong difficult to learn?
Not at all! Mahjong may look intimidating at first because there are many tiles and rules, but once you understand the basics, it starts to click. My goal is to make learning Mahjong approachable, fun, and stress-free. I break everything down step-by-step so beginners feel comfortable and confident sitting down at the table.

Absolutely! All levels are welcome at Mahj Club.Many of my members started exactly where you are — brand new and curious about learning. Mahj Club is designed to be a welcoming place where players can practice, meet new people, and continue growing their Mahjong skills in a fun social environment.
